At the end of 2020 we lost two stalwarts of interfaith work in Hull and East Riding.
John Friend was an active and outward facing member of the local Jewish reform community and also a past chair of HERI.
Imam Salik (of the Berkeley Street mosque) was a patron of HERI and his work in promoting community cohesion and mutual understanding was widely recognised.
We have been very fortunate to have had two such people heavily involved in HERI. Links to tributes which appeared in Hull Daily Mail are below.
Comments about these two outstanding individuals which were made by members of HERI at the time focussed on great sadness at their loss, an appreciation of their tremendous commitment to community cohesion, their generosity of spirit and time in making people feel welcome and a great appreciation of their work in developing inter faith links in general and developing HERI in particular. They were both people inspired by their faith and willing to serve others.
